Papa Legba Veve Patch - The Black Broom

Papa Legba Veve Patch

$ 5.95

This embroidered Papa Legba Veve patch, available exclusively here at The Black Broom, can be ironed on or sewn on. The stitching is silver on black felt and measures approximately 3 inches in diameter.

In Haitian Vodou, Papa Legba is the intermediary between the loa and humanity. He stands at a spiritual crossroads and gives (or denies) permission to speak with the spirits, and is believed to speak all human languages. He is always the first and last spirit invoked in any ceremony, because his permission is needed for any communication between mortals and the loa - he opens and closes the doorway. Legba is the infamous god of the crossroads with red and black as his colors. A Veve or Vévé is a religious symbol commonly used in Haitian Vodou. It's drawn on the ground in cornmeal, ash, gunpowder or other substances to represent and call a particular spirit during a ceremony.
